Our first two months of school have flown by – here we are in the midst of fall already! As the leaves begin to change and our students begin to settle into their school routine, I hope that our Matsunaga/ Longview families have had some time to settle into our PTA events this year which are already a success! We have had a whirlwind opening season of fundraisers and events filled with MES/LV spirit!
WE DID IT! With generous donations from our MES/LV families during our Laptops 4 Learning drive, we are currently in the process of purchasing a new set of laptops and a charging cart so that our students can immediately benefit from these learning tools! In addition, we are wrapping our Great American fundraiser that brought in necessary funds to support our events and services throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who has participated in our fundraisers this Fall!
As we shared at Back-to-School Nights, we look forward to offering different fundraisers throughout the year so that families can choose which programs to support that make sense for their families! KidStuff Books with amazing coupons from local stores and restaurants, the popular Mixed Bags as well as Krispy Kreme donut vouchers are just a few of the fundraisers that will lead up to our annual Silent Auction Gala. The Silent Auction is our largest fundraiser of the year! We have unbelieveable donations including Disney World tickets, summer camps, electronics, classes, books and teacher donations. Don’t miss this fun night – mark your calendars for December 9th!
OUT TO PLAY! After days of rain, the sun came out for our Ice Cream Social and Fall Family Fun Night where students, staff and parents spent a beautiful evening enjoying delicious ice cream, dancing to DJ Drew and playing carnival games on our very own MES/LV blacktop!
At our Longview School, we have our Kids Helping Kids Longview Food Drive to support the Manna Food Drive continues until November 4th. Please bring in cans to help us reach our goal of 1327 pounds of food this year — 121 pounds more than last year — to help feed the needy in Montgomery County. Let’s make the drive a big success! In addition, our Longview Seniors just enjoyed the annual Senior Homecoming at our school!
There is more to come this fall…we have some incredible events during the weeks ahead. Our first annual Matsunaga Multicultural Medley, on November 4th in the MES gym, will host our students as they showcase their international talents with beautiful cultural performances! Holiday Craft Night is a fun family night with crafts for ages 1-99. Come make holiday gifts for loved ones.
We are continuing to grow our PTA website at matsunagapta.org. Log on to get the latest news, download necessary documents, and enjoy some Gecko Gear shopping. If you have not already, join the listserve to stay up-to-date on PTA messages and events, and school information.
As always, our PTA door is always open, so please feel free to email me at any time with feedback, ideas or questions at kgkp_99@yahoo.com.
Enjoy your holidays! Kim Penn, PTA President
